"20 Stories from 20 Veterans" -n'Kand me Nik Kosoven -PodCast

One of the most significant projects carried out during the year was “20 Events from 20 Veterans,” an initiative supported by the Municipality of Pristina, which aimed at documenting and promoting the authentic stories of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) veterans. This project was designed to preserve and share the personal experiences and historical accounts of veterans, ensuring that their contributions to the liberation of Kosovo are recognized and remembered. Through this initiative, we aimed to highlight the resilience, courage, and sacrifices made by these individuals, while also fostering a deeper understanding of Kosovo’s history and the pivotal role of its veterans.

Impact of 20 Stories from 20 veterans

Content:
An interview series with 20 veterans, capturing their personal stories and experiences during the war, conducted through professional consultations with psychologists and social workers.

Outcome:
The creation of the podcast “N’Kand me Nik Kosovën,” a new platform dedicated to addressing the war stories and their impact on society. This podcast serves as a space where veterans can openly share their narratives, while also fostering a deeper understanding of the psychological and social challenges they face.

Research:
A study that identifies the socio-economic needs and mental health status of the 1998-1999 war veterans of the KLA. This research aims to shed light on the ongoing challenges faced by veterans in terms of social well-being, economic conditions, and mental health, emphasizing the need for continued support.

This project marks the beginning of a broader commitment to historical documentation and the psycho-social treatment of veterans, providing a platform where they can share their experiences with the wider public and help create a deeper connection to the legacy of Kosovo’s independence. Through these efforts, the project aims to ensure that the contributions of veterans are recognized, and their well-being is prioritized in the ongoing post-war development of Kosovo.

This project was funded by the Municipality of Pristina, through the Directorate of Social Welfare.

Research - Assessment Report on the Status of KLA Veterans.

The purpose of the Assessment Report on the Status of KLA Veterans is to address the significant challenges faced by war veterans in civilian life. This research is part of the project “24 War Events – Capacity Building and Mental Health Protection Project for 24 War Veterans of 98-99 in Kosovo”, implemented by the NGO Brez pas Brezi and funded by the Municipality of Pristina, specifically through the Directorate of Social Welfare. This project has provided social services and psychological consultations, helping to improve mental health and ease the integration of war-affected categories into our society. The experiences of war often leave long-term consequences, and this project offers structured support to help cope with trauma and emotional recovery.

The completion of this research helps better understand the mental health status and the economic situation of veterans of the 1998-1999 war. The data collected will define the approach to developing more appropriate services and advocating for greater institutional support. This report aims to provide a detailed analysis of these issues, serving as an informative tool for policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and relevant institutions to take concrete steps in improving the quality of life for veterans.

The research has identified a significant need for the creation of a reliable platform where KLA war veterans can share their experiences and receive professional support. In the absence of such a structure, many veterans face difficulties in expressing their concerns and finding appropriate solutions to the challenges they face.

The post-war situation for veterans has been difficult, characterized by insufficient institutional support and inadequate integration into society. Facing economic, health, and social challenges has impacted their well-being, emphasizing the need for better access to support services and programs dedicated to rehabilitation and active community involvement.
